AFTERNOON OF A FAUN / LAPRÈS

The second published collaboration between Mallarmé and Manet (after Mallarmés translation of Poes The Raven), Laprès-midi dun faune is one of the poets best-known works. It provided the basis for Debussys Prélude à laprès-midi dun faune (1894), which in turn inspired Nijinskys ballet Laprès-midi dun faune, first performed in Paris in 1912, with Nijinsky famously dancing the title role.
